According to the statement of Akkuyu Nükleer AŞ, one of the key stages in the construction of the reactor building in the second power plant block of the power plant built by the Russian state nuclear energy company Rosatom has been completed.
Accordingly, in the 2nd power plant unit of Akkuyu NPP, the inner protective shell dome of the sealing area of the reactor building was placed in the designated position, and this process ensured the formation of the sealed internal volume of the power plant.
The operation, which took approximately 7 hours, was carried out using a high-capacity mobile crawler crane. Around 40 experts took part in the operation by attaching, securing and balancing the load and guiding and fixing the metal structure in its final position.
The hemispherical inner protective shell dome consists of 15 assembly sections made of special structural steel. While the installation of the beam, which was carried out next to the dome's power plant building, took approximately four months, the lifting process used a special traverse designed with the geometry and weight of the dome in mind.
After the dome is in place, construction crews weld the cylindrical section of the dome and the inner protective shell together. This creates a closed volume of the reactor building. As part of the work, the reinforcement and concreting of the shell will continue.
Sergei Butkikh, General Manager of Akkuyu Nükleer AŞ, whose views were included in the statement, said:
“The installation of the inner containment dome is one of the most technically complex and critical operations in the construction of the reactor building. The construction and assembly teams have been preparing for this operation for several months. Welders, molders and crane operators.” “It is the result of your work.”
