The motion, submitted by eight MPs from different parties, noted that the number of illegal settlements in the Israeli-occupied territories had risen to record levels and that this situation was increasingly weakening the prospect of a two-state solution.
The proposal states that trade with the European Union contributes to the economic survival of illegal settlements.
In addition, the motion called on the government to take an active leadership role at the European level to ban trade with illegal settlements in Israeli-occupied territories across the EU.
In the parliamentary vote, the motion calling for a ban on trade with Israel's illegal settlements was passed with a large majority.
The People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), known for its pro-Israel stance, also supported the motion.
The Netherlands had previously initiated a national trade ban
The Dutch government had previously sent the draft law regulating the national trade ban on products from the occupied Palestinian territories and illegal Israeli settlements in the Syrian Golan Heights to the State Council for comment.
While the bill completely bans the importation of goods from settlements, it also covers buying, selling and intermediary trade, as well as lifting these trade bans. The ban should last three years.
The Dutch government has repeatedly called for an EU-wide ban, but support from member states has not been enough.
