The drilling ship Çağrı Bey headed to the CURAD-1 well

According to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Çağrı Bey began his journey to Somalia from Mersin Taşucu Port on February 15 for drilling operations in Somalia. The ship, which reached Somalia after a total of 53 days, was welcomed at the port of Mogadishu on April 10 with a ceremony attended by Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar.

Çağrı Bey, who will carry out Türkiye's first overseas deep-sea exploratory drilling in Somalia, left the port of Mogadishu after completing the final preparations such as material and fuel supply in the port and headed to the CURAD-1 well where he will drill. On this trip, Çağrı Bey will be accompanied by the energy fleet's support ships Altan, Korkut and Sancar. In order to operate safely, naval elements consisting of TCG Sancaktar, TCG Gökova and TCG Bafra also accompany Çağrı Bey.

Çağrı Bey is scheduled to arrive at the drilling site, which is 372 kilometers offshore, tomorrow at noon. When the vessel arrives at the CURAD-1 well, it will begin well testing activities after positioning. After the tests, the drilling work begins.

The Çağrı Bey drilling ship will drill at a point with a water depth of 3 thousand 495 meters after digging 4 thousand 5 meters from the seabed and a total depth of 7 thousand 500 meters.

The CURAD-1 well is said to be the second deepest offshore well in the world at a depth of 7,500 meters. In addition, the drilling work carried out by Çağrı Bey will use an underwater robot that can dive up to 4,000 meters deep. If climate and weather conditions are favorable, the drilling process is expected to be completed in 6 to 9 months.
