Türkiye sits at the table for low-orbit satellites with world giants

Sayan, Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, who was in Washington for Satellite 2026, one of the satellite industry's leading organizations, provided information about Türkiye's work on satellite technologies.

Sayan said that TÜRKSAT, TUSAŞ, ASELSAN and PROFEN participated in the Turkey Pavilion at the Satellite Fair, Fergani Uzay and CTech companies also participated, and many companies from the domestic satellite ecosystem were also represented at the fair.

Sayan emphasized that with the National Technology Move they have highlighted locality and nationality in all products, and also pointed out that their efforts to increase cooperation with global companies will continue.

Sayan referred to the experience with the local and national Türkiye satellite TÜRKSAT 6A and explained that it will go much further in this area.

Stating that TÜRKSAT signed two agreements at the satellite exhibition, Sayan explained that there is cooperation with Anuvu and Viasat for aviation sector services.

Work on new satellite projects continues

Regarding the Türkiye satellite studies, Sayan reminded that the TÜRKSAT 5A, TÜRKSAT 5B and TÜRKSAT 6A satellites had already started their operations in the past years and stated that the studies for new projects would continue.

Sayan said: “We have partnerships in many satellite projects and production of new satellite projects, especially at the local and national levels. In the coming period, we are planning their infrastructure with global manufacturers and companies in the domestic satellite ecosystem.” he said.

Regarding Türkiye's work on low-orbit satellites (LEO), Sayan said: “We had meetings with these companies as part of the exhibition, especially SpaceX's Starlink and Amazon's Kuiper. We informed them about the type of regulations that their systems in Türkiye should be subject to and our security requirements. We talked about a roadmap as to whether they comply with these regulations, especially security, and we are moving forward.” he said.

The use of 5G with satellite capacity is also on the agenda

Regarding the transition to 5G in mobile communications, Sayan recalled that the 5G tender took place at the end of last year and in this context, a spectrum fee totaling $3.5 billion was started to be charged to the state.

Stating that the first pickups were made on January 1, Sayan explained that the 5G service will be officially activated across Türkiye on April 1.

In this regard, Sayan stated that a program will be held at the Presidential Complex on March 31, pointing out that the commissioning of 5G across Türkiye will begin here.

Sayan pointed out that with 5G, data speeds will increase and lag times will decrease, explaining that the use of 5G with satellite capacity is one of the most important topics at the exhibition and that negotiations in this area will continue.

Sayan said: “Turkey will reach a new level of communication with 5G.” he said.
