In his statement to the press in the capital Paris, Macron assessed the tariff decision of the US Supreme Court.
Macron said it was not his habit to comment on what was happening in other countries and pointed out that it was good to have high courts and therefore the rule of law.
“A Supreme Court looked at the constitution and said, 'These (tariffs) are not in line with the constitution,'” Macron said.
Macron warned against acting too hastily given the consequences of the US Supreme Court's tariff decision, recalling that US President Donald Trump announced a few hours ago that he had made a new global tariff decision.
Macron said they would look at the consequences and think about what they could do and then act accordingly.
Macron emphasized that they wanted to continue exporting within the framework of fair rules and said that they did not want to be exposed to unilateral decisions.
Macron emphasized that we should act with the logic of reducing tensions on the international stage.
The Supreme Court has made its decision
The US Supreme Court ruled yesterday that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), on which Trump's tariffs were based, did not give the president the authority to impose tariffs.
In his post on his Truth Social account, Trump announced that he had signed the decision to impose a 10 percent global customs tax on all countries.
