The presidential decree on this issue was published in the Official Gazette.
Accordingly, the name of the General Directorate of National Technology within the Ministry was changed to “General Directorate of National Technology and Artificial Intelligence”.
Studies in the field of artificial intelligence have also been added to the tasks and powers of the Directorate General.
The relevant tasks and powers have been established as follows: “Ensuring the development and use of artificial intelligence technologies in accordance with reliable and ethical principles, preparing and implementing policy recommendations and strategies in the field of artificial intelligence, increasing the capacity of data, infrastructure and human resources for the development and use of artificial intelligence technologies, supporting initiatives and R&D activities, making the necessary legislative arrangements, developing international collaborations, ensuring governance and coordination at the national level, contributing to public studies on artificial intelligence in these areas.”
The headquarters also took on tasks related to data centers. In this context, the General Directorate's tasks and powers included the development of data center and cloud computing infrastructure in Turkey, the preparation and implementation of policy recommendations and strategies in this area, the establishment of criteria and standards for data centers, and the preparation and implementation of regulations for certification and authorization.
On the other hand, under the Decree, those who hold the positions of “Director General” and “Deputy Director General” are considered to be appointed to the positions of “National Director General for Technology and Artificial Intelligence” and “Deputy Director General for National Technology and Artificial Intelligence,” respectively.
