The International Astronautical Congress brings together space experts in Turkey

Turkish Space Agency President Kıraç revealed that they are working to achieve the goals set within the framework of the National Space Program announced by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in 2021. Emphasizing that they have come a long way in this regard, Kıraç said:

“It is very important for a country to have strategically independent access to space. That is why we as Turkey are currently building a spaceport in a third country. We hope that it will be ready in the first months of 2027 with housing, launch facilities, test integration.”

Kıraç stated that the foundations of modern astronomy were laid by scientists such as Fergani, Harezmi, Nasirüddin Tusi and Ali Kuşçu and that Türkiye has signaled that it will return to previous successes with the studies it has carried out in this field, especially in the last 20 years.

More than 10,000 participants are expected

Stating that the International Space Congress, which will be held in Antalya from October 5 to 9, 2026, is important for Türkiye's space journey, Kıraç said: “Imagine that a continuous event has been held in one country every year for 77 years. The International Space Congress has 604 members. Space agencies, including NASA, government space agencies, private companies… We expect approximately over 10,000 participants and about 50 astronauts.” he said.

Kıraç said that they attach great importance to academics and young people attending the congress with their articles so that their articles can be published and they can hold meetings with the owners of the top companies participating in the congress.

Kıraç emphasized that important figures in space science will be present at the congress:

“From October 5th to 9th, the world and space will talk and discuss in Türkiye. The progress our defense industry has made in the last 20 years is incredible. Now we are trying to achieve the same in space in the defense industry also in the space sector.”

Record item expectation

Kıraç recalled that about 4,500 articles were presented at the 76th International Astronautical Congress held in Sydney, Australia this year.

Explaining that they expect more articles from academics and young people for the congress being held in Türkiye, Kıraç said: “Our intention is to break a record. We want to see the highest number of articles published by Turkish scientists and students so far, and of course qualified articles. Sometimes this seems only the field of space aviation, but space, space law, space history, nutrition… What will astronauts eat when they fly there? This is even a very important topic. You can even Write articles about it.” Theme. he said.
