Wait times for rides at Disneyland parks are notoriously long during the holiday season. But the line with the longest waits this year isn't for a thrill ride, but for a cookie.
Park visitors looking to get their hands on a gingerbread cookie shaped like Disney's iconic rodent – described by fans as buttery, perfectly spiced and not overly sweet – can expect waits of up to 11 hours.
For years it has been difficult to secure the famous holiday offer as it sells out quickly in the park. With each holiday season it seems to get even more difficult.
This year is no exception: Guests report hour-long waits for mobile orders at park locations like Jolly Holiday Bakery, one of the few places that sells cookies.
“The best cookie in Disneyland. By far!” Mandi Nacey, a travel agent at 407 and Beyond Vacation Co., a company specializing in Disney and Universal Studios vacations, commented on the wait times in an Instagram post.
In response to high demand, Disney appears to have temporarily excluded Mickey Gingerbread from some mobile ordering options in recent weeks, guests report on social media, forcing people to stand in physical lines to receive the treats.
Sales are limited to five per person, a policy that has been in place “for several years to allow as many of our guests as possible to enjoy this offering,” a Disneyland spokesperson said in an email.
“[T]“The full gingerbread is one of our most popular gingerbread offerings,” the spokesperson said.
Guests should read a guide posted on the Disney Parks Blog to learn more about the company's gingerbread candies, the spokesperson said. He added that mobile orders are dependent on daily availability and guests may not be able to place an order if the cookies sell out.
According to the blog, the cookies will be available for mobile ordering from Jolly Holiday Bakery.
The famous cookies are also available at the Market House in Disneyland Park. In California Adventure they are sold at the Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Cafe. And a shopping cart in the lobby of the Grand Californian Hotel is the only place outside the park where the cookie is available.
At the park, each cookie sells for $7.99. In the hotel car, the cookies cost a whopping $10.50.
“Jolly Holiday sold out of all the gingerbread every time I tried it at lunchtime,” Linda Wei said in a comment on a Facebook page called “Disneyland Tips and Tricks.”
However, Wei pointed out that Starbucks in California Adventure also sells the cookies.
“I was able to get 5 yesterday…no problem,” Wei wrote.
