The presidential decree amending the decision on the import regime came into force after its publication in the Official Gazette.
Accordingly, the tariffs on the import of green lentils and oats were revised. While the duty on green lentils was reduced from 19.3 percent to 10 percent, the duty on oats, which was 130 percent, was reduced to 30 percent. These tariffs are valid until April 30, 2026.
The Ministry of Commerce's statement on the issue said that the welfare of producers and consumers and the needs of industrialists were jointly assessed to prevent speculative prices through correct management of markets, ensure security of supply of basic foodstuffs and meet the country's needs by promoting domestic production, and that the necessary measures were taken in a timely manner through the use of trade policy instruments in coordination with relevant institutions and organizations.
In this regard, the statement pointed out that due to the adverse climatic conditions in Türkiye this year, there were significant declines in the production of green lentils, one of the staple food products, and oats, one of the important inputs of the food and feed industry, and made the following statements:
“Ahead of Ramadan, it has become urgent to adopt a series of new regulations, taking into account the opinions of our Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, to ensure that our industrialists operating in the food sector can easily be supplied with the inputs they require and that our citizens have access to the products and foodstuffs made therefrom at affordable prices, thereby ensuring security of supply and price stability of the foodstuffs in question. In this regard, the tariff rate of 19.3 percent on the import of green lentils will ensure: that our citizens have access.” on affordable food and the protection of domestic producers “It was changed to 10 percent taking into account the harvest time of the product.”
The recording application was launched in Chickpeas
The statement stated that the recording application has been started to determine the supply and demand situation of chickpeas, taking into account the profitability of this product. It was also reported that there was a decline in oat production this year, a key input in the food and feed industry.
Taking into account the difficulties faced by the industrialists due to this decline in supply from the domestic market, the statement said that precautions have been taken to prevent possible increases in prices of food products made from oats and noted the following:
“The customs tax on oat imports, which was 130 percent, was changed to 30 percent by April 30, taking into account the harvest season in our country, for the import of the product only for the purpose of use in the production of bakery and confectionery products, as well as bakery products such as some breads and cookies. On the other hand, the possibility of importing both green lentils and oats with low duties ends on April 30 and will continue after the said date Tariffs imposed: “It will continue to implement the necessary regulations in a timely manner by closely monitoring the supply, demand and price levels in the market in consultation with other institutions and organizations, in particular the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.”
