UN describes situation in Sudan as “still dire”

UN Secretary-General spokesman Stephane Dujarric spoke at the daily press conference.

Explaining that the situation in the city of Fashir in Sudan was “still dire”, Dujarric said World Food Program (WFP) staff were trying to support families who had fled to five regions around Fashir, including Tavila.

“Currently, 1,485 tons of food and nutrients, enough for about 130,000 people, have left for Tavila via El Dabbah in Northern Province,” Dujarric said. he said.

On the other hand, Dujarric emphasized that the conflicts continue to cause large-scale displacement in the Kurdufan regions, sharing the information that between October 25 and November 18, about 40,000 people were displaced from different regions of the province.

Dujarric explained that the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Sudan, Ramtan Lamamra, is preparing to travel to Port Sudan and Addis Ababa next week, saying they continue to promote genuine dialogue between parties in the region to advance peace.

“The urgent need to better protect civilians in Sudan has been and remains at the center of all discussions,” said spokesman Dujarric.

Dujarric also called on donors to increase their contributions due to growing humanitarian needs in Sudan, noting that just over a third of this year's $4.2 billion in humanitarian appeals have been funded.

Conflicts in Sudan and violations by HDK troops

Sudan has been the scene of violent clashes between the army and the foreign-backed HDK since April 15, 2023.

Fashir, the largest city in the Darfur region in the west of the country, largely came under the control of the HDK after violent clashes.

The moments when HDK violently removed civilians and killed and tortured many unarmed people in the city, where tens of thousands of people fled the clashes, were reflected in the videos shared by HDK members.
