The fund's statement said the IMF delegation held meetings with Ukrainian officials from November 17 to 21 to request a new program.
The statement said that the IMF and Ukrainian officials reached an agreement at the staff level on the new Extended Fund Facility (EFF) agreement worth $8.2 billion for 48 months.
The statement noted that Russia's war continues to place a heavy burden on the Ukrainian people and economy, and that despite this, Ukrainian officials remain committed to maintaining macroeconomic stability and restoring external balance with sustainable debt levels.
The statement said Ukrainian authorities are committed to combating informality, preventing corruption and improving governance, including public enterprises.
The Fund's statement noted that the new program could be submitted to the IMF Board of Directors for approval after the previous operations are completed and there are sufficient financing assurances from donors.
