“The defense industry has become a pioneer of high technology”

The 2025 Machinery Summit organized by the Turkish Mechanical Engineering Association (MAKFED) invites all industry stakeholders to address the questions “New Future: Are you a competitor?” to provide. With his motto he brought them together in Istanbul.

This year, the summit, organized with the aim of strengthening the machinery industry's position in global competition and creating common guidelines for the future, will discuss the impact of technological change on the industry as well as the rapidly changing political and economic balances around the world.

The main themes of the program are the multipolar new world order, transformation supported by artificial intelligence, new power blocs, trade wars, increasing protectionism, twin transformation and competitive parameters shaped by artificial intelligence.

Speaking at the event, Minister Kacır said that they have made Türkiye a reliable production and technology base not only in their region but also in a much larger geographical region with the investments they have made in many areas, from organized industrial zones to technoparks, from R&D and design centers to the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Stating that they have brought Türkiye to an advanced level in production, industry and technology development, Kacır said: “Our annual product exports, which were $36 billion 23 years ago, have exceeded $270 billion today. Our industrial value added has increased from $41 billion to $219 billion.” he said.

“Our engineering sector has advanced our manufacturing ecosystem in recent years with its export performance and localization rate.”

Minister Kacır stated that after China, Türkiye is the country that can competitively export most types of products to most countries in the wide belt that extends to Central Europe.

Pointing out that the industrial production index in Germany fell by 12.4 percent, in Italy by 5.5 percent and in France by 2.8 percent compared to the pre-pandemic period, Kacır said: “The fact that Türkiye increased its industrial production by 27.5 percent in the same period shows the resilience of our economy and the strength of our production infrastructure.” he said.

Stating that the mechanical engineering industry, which has the identity of factories that have a multiplier effect on the competitiveness of all sectors from iron and steel to automobile industry, from defense industry to chemicals, from food industry to textile industry, Kacır plays a strategic role in the country's development path, saying, “Our mechanical engineering sector, which provides jobs to more than 500,000 citizens in more than 57,000 companies, has strengthened our production ecosystem in recent times years with its production capacity and product quality as well as its technological competence and export performance.” and localization rate.” gave his assessment.
