The 11th Turkish World Medical Congress, organized by the Ministry of Health and the Presidency of Turkish Health Institutes (TUSEB) under the auspices of the Presidency, began yesterday in Ankara.
Prof. came to Ankara to attend the “Aziz Sancar Science, Service and Incentive Awards” congress and ceremony, which has been held in his name for 9 years. Dr. Sancar made statements about his visit.
Sancar explained that he reached Ankara after a long journey: “Long journeys are tiring at my age, but I came and was very satisfied.”
Stating that he attended various meetings within the framework of the 11th Turkish World Congress of Medicine, which began in Ankara yesterday, Sancar said: “I attended three to four meetings here. TUSEB is doing a really good job. I am very hopeful because Türkiye is a health country.”
“Turkish medicine is one of the pioneers in the world”
Pointing out that the “Aziz Sancar Science, Service and Incentive Awards” ceremony will be held at the Beştepe Nation Congress and Culture Center tomorrow as part of the congress, Sancar said that he came at the invitation of President Erdoğan and that he would attend this ceremony for the first time.
Emphasizing that Türkiye's studies in the field of medicine are at a very good level, Sancar said: “Turkish medicine is one of the pioneers in the world. We are not yet at the level of Europe and America in the field of technology, but we are rapidly approaching. I hope that we will compete with them soon.”
Prof. Dr. Calling on children and youth to contribute to science, Sancar said: “I say that by practicing science, you will be more beneficial to both our country and humanity.”
Sancar evaluated the studies in the field of cell and gene therapy in Türkiye and said: “As far as I can see, it is at the world level, at the American level, but gene therapies and cell therapies are still in the early stages. There is a lot of investment and research going on. I expect that there will be positive results in the end.”
