According to the compilation from the central government's budget law proposal for 2026, Türkiye, which began to make a name for itself in the space country after the first manned space mission, plans to diversify its efforts in this area.
In this context, studies are being carried out to support the domestic production of critical materials and components needed in strategic sectors such as the space, aviation and defense industries.
The National Space Program is developing applications such as low-cost small satellite platforms to increase technology production capability in this area. Studies are being carried out to carry out research and development activities for new satellite technologies.
The budget rose to a record level
For the commissioning of all these projects, the budget was increased from 5 billion 52 million lira for space and aviation in 2025 to 8 billion 729 million lira, an all-time record level, for 2026.
This grant demonstrated the determination of the National Space Program after Turkish astronauts Alper Gezeravcı and Tuva Cihangir Atasever completed their scientific missions and TÜRKSAT 6A was launched.
Türkiye is also preparing to host the International Astronautical Congress (IAC), the world's largest space event, which will take place from October 5 to 9 next year.
The congress, taking place in Antalya, will bring together authorities, states, academics and investors from the space and aviation sector and pave the way for new collaborations in this area.
On the other hand, Türkiye's efforts to achieve the goal of “first contact with the moon” continue. The design and production process of the spacecraft, which is scheduled to make first contact with the moon in 2027 as part of the lunar project, will be carried out by TÜBİTAK UZAY.
The TUA budget is fixed
Türkiye is also expected to complete the Space Aviator Application Center, which will be established to monitor and model the effects of changes in space weather.
In order for the Turkish Space Agency (TUA) to contribute to all these activities, a budget of 5 billion 911 million lira is planned for next year.
On the other hand, Türkiye wants to create a commercial brand that can compete with the world in the field of new generation satellite development within the framework of the National Space Program. The main objectives also include developing the country's regional positioning and timing system, providing access to space and establishing a spaceport, investing in the field of space weather or meteorology and increasing competence in this area.
