Türkiye's first 5G laboratory is set up

The aim is to increase the locality and nationality of 5G, which is expected to impact many sectors, from industry to logistics, from agriculture to healthcare, from transportation to defense, thereby significantly reducing Türkiye's technology dependence on foreign countries.

While the goal is to transform Türkiye into a base that produces domestic 5G technologies and makes them available to the global market, it is expected that this will bring about radical changes in the ecosystem with the high speed, capacity and efficiency it will offer.

One of the important steps in this context is being taken in Teknopark Istanbul. ULAK Communication Inc. pressed the button to set up Türkiye's first 5G laboratory in Teknopark Istanbul.

5G-based systems are tested in real time

Abdurrahman Akyol, General Manager of Teknopark Istanbul, said that 5G technology is not only a faster connection system, but also a strategic turning point in terms of Türkiye's “data sovereignty” and “national independence movement in cybersecurity.”

As a technology park focusing on defense, aviation and space technologies, they see 5G as the backbone of the national communications infrastructure and a lever that will transform the entrepreneurship ecosystem, explaining that Türkiye is supporting the transition to 5G not only through the use of base stations from external manufacturers, but also through the development of network elements, core network components, software and security layers strive for on site.

Akyol noted that this process is crucial in terms of data sovereignty, saying:

“Türkiye's first 5G laboratory, which will be established by ULAK Communication Inc., will be located in Teknopark Istanbul. The national base station and core network solutions developed by ULAKNET will be tested not only in our campus, but also in defense, communications, IoT, radar, autonomous system and artificial intelligence-based applications in the Teknopark Istanbul integrated. This is how our Technopark becomes an application field in which.” 5G-based systems can be tested in real time. will transform.

“Both accuracy and speed of commercialization will increase”

Akyol emphasized that 5G will have a game-changing effect in the defense industry, especially in areas such as command and control systems, unmanned aerial and ground vehicles, radar networks, simulation systems and tactical communication solutions, explaining that this technology will provide new opportunities in projects requiring data processing, instantaneous communication and high security standards.

Akyol explained that startup companies operating under the “Cube Incubation” in Teknopark Istanbul will also have the opportunity to test their prototypes in real time on the 5G infrastructure, adding: “A health technology startup will be able to operate a remote diagnostic device over 5G, a logistics or robotics startup will be able to test its autonomous systems with live scenarios. In this way, both accuracy and speed of commercialization are improved.” increase. “Network “The new possibilities offered by 5G, such as “slicing” and “edge computing”, provide the opportunity to develop value-added services for start-ups and industrial companies in Teknopark Istanbul.” gave his assessment.

“The beginning of a new era in Türkiye’s technology ecosystem”

Stating that they view this technology not only as a communication infrastructure but also as a strategic lever that will scale the entrepreneurship ecosystem, Akyol explained that the principles of domestic production, security and sustainability are of great importance in Türkiye's 5G transformation process.

Stating that Teknopark Istanbul acts in full accordance with national goals in these three headings, Akyol said:

“The process that started with ULAKNET's laboratory will soon develop into an innovation ecosystem where new 5G-based technologies will emerge in the fields of defense, health, energy and mobility. 5G is a transformation tool that strengthens Teknopark Istanbul's national capabilities in the defense industry and makes entrepreneurship and technology-based business models competitive on a global level makes. We see this process not only as an infrastructure change, but also as a new one.” Türkiye’s technology ecosystem.” “We see it as the beginning of the age.”
