86.5 percent of people in Turkey use the Internet and 93.8 percent have a mobile phone connection.

In his written statement, Minister Uraloğlu assessed the April data of the Digital 2024 Global Overview and Turkey Report prepared by the organizations We Are Social and Meltwater, which report digital data around the world every year.

Uraloğlu stated that the global mobile phone usage rate will exceed 69 percent in 2024 and stated that 5.65 billion people will use mobile phones worldwide that year.

Uraloğlu reported that the number of unique mobile phone users increased by 2.4 percent to 133 million last year.

Uraloğlu pointed out that internet usage has increased significantly worldwide and stated that in 2024, 67.1 percent of the world's population, or 5.44 billion people, will be online.

Uraloğlu pointed out that the number of global internet users increased by 3.4 percent compared to the previous year. Stating that the number of social media users worldwide has increased by nearly 35 percent since the beginning of the Covid-19 epidemic and that nearly a billion new users have been added in the last three years, Uraloğlu said, “Although the number of social media users has slowed down significantly in the past year, the number of users continues to rise in 2013.” gave his assessment.

“Türkiye ranks 36th in internet adoption rate”

Uraloğlu stated that Turkey ranks 36th with an internet usage rate of 86.5 percent relative to the population and continued his statement as follows:

“If we look at the time we spend on the internet, our country ranks 19th in the world with 7 hours and 6 minutes per day. 86.5 percent of our population are internet users, 67.4 percent are social media users and 93.8 percent own a mobile phone.” According to the report, the average download speed for mobile cellular internet is 37.66 megabits and the average download speed for fixed-line internet is 41.90 megabits. The main reasons for internet use in Turkey are to find information, be informed about news and events, research how to do something, a product and a brand, “do research and keep in touch with family and friends.”

“Friends are being followed on social media”

Uraloğlu stated that Instagram ranked first in monthly social media usage per user in Turkey with 21 hours and 24 minutes, and TikTok ranked second with 20 hours and 54 minutes, adding, “Friends and family are the leading profiles followed on social media accounts in Turkey.” and people we know come. This is followed by brands, TV shows or channels we want to buy and purchase, entertainment content, influencers and parody accounts. In Turkey, the probability of following influencers on social media is 49 percent higher, while in the world it is next at 11.7 percent. he said.

Uraloğlu stated that Turkey ranks third with 64.6 percent when considering the number of internet users who make online purchases around the world every week and said:

“Factors such as free delivery, easy return policy, coupons and discounts, fast and easy payment and customer comments are the most important reasons for citizens to resort to online shopping. When users discover new brands, products and services, 36.8 percent of them use social media. “It was found that they discovered these brands through media ads. This ranking was followed by search engines, television and application advertising and the websites of the brands or products.”
